Student Profile

Ana Maria Almonte

Ana Maria Almonte, a student in the Transportation Systems Engineering track of the Civil Engineering MS program, is investigating the relationship between the Level-of-Service (LOS) and traffic safety within Florida’s transportation system, particularly at signalized intersections and road segments/corridors for her thesis. She hopes that her research will turn out to be a valuable contribution for the field of traffic safety. “The beauty of research is that you can leave your mark in the annals of your discipline!” Almonte says. She credits her adviser, Mohamed Abdel-Aty, PhD, as one reason why she strives for excellence in her research. “He inspires respect and admiration. Dr. Abdel-Aty demands a lot in our group’s work, but I like that because it shows he really cares for our progress,” Almonte explains.

Vikash Gayah

Vikash Gayah, a graduate of the Transportation Systems Engineering track of the Civil Engineering MS program, originally chose UCF for his undergraduate degree because it was located in Orlando, where his family resides. However, his choice for graduate school was more complex. He explains, "I chose UCF for graduate school because I was very interested in the level and quality of research being done in Transportation Systems, especially in the Transportation Safety field. I was confident that UCF was headed in the right direction as far as being a recognized research university in this field."
